Cathy has served two terms as chairman of the board of the Better Business Bureau of Greater Houston and South Texas.
Started in Houston in 1986 by Dan Patrick and a few friends, Be An Angel works to support the needs of multiply handicapped and profoundly deaf children. Operating entirely through private funding and no government funding, to date over 30 barrier-free playgrounds have been built where normal and handicapped kids can play together.
Cathy has served two terms as chairman of the board for Be An Angel.
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Relay For Life is staffed and coordinated by volunteers in more than 5,200 communities and 20 countries. It is a team fundraising event where team members take turns walking around a track or designated path. Each event is 6-24 hours in length and each team is asked to have a member on the track at all times to signify that cancer never sleeps.
The Houston SPCA, founded in 1924, is Houston’s first and largest animal protection organization and shelter. Their mission is to promote commitment to and respect for all animals and free them from suffering, abuse and exploitation. They are a private, nonprofit charity, not affiliated with any other SPCA, and receive no government funding or assistance from other animal organizations, relying solely on donations from businesses, grants and animal lovers to continue their work.
The Fort Bend Women’s Center assists survivors of domestic or sexual violence and their children to achieve safety, heal and begin a new independent and self-sufficient life, while also striving to prevent violence against women. They have a 24 hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, counseling, legal and medical support and much more. They also offer community education and outreach designed to reduce domestic violence and sexual assault.
The FBI Citizens Academy is a community outreach program pioneered by the FBI and adopted by law enforcement agencies around the country. The Citizens Academy gives community leaders, business professionals, religious leaders, and other citizens an inside look at the FBI and its operations. Participants meet the men and women of the FBI, gain an appreciation for the job they do, and often become lifelong friends of the Bureau.
Cathy is the president-elect for the upcoming term and is an alumna of the class of 2010 and current vice president.
Shortly following the events of 9/11, Homes For Heroes has been affiliating with real estate professionals to provide extraordinary discounts and rebates to those who serve our nation and its communities. Homes for Heroes provides and coordinates financial assistance and housing resources to the Heroes of our nation such as Military personnel, Police/Peace Officers, Firefighter and First Responders who have been wounded in the line of duty or are needy. The Homes for Heroes Foundation, through its growing network of contractors and generous donors, will endeavor to provide assistance to those who serve our country and communities every day.
